BOTANICAL ACTIVES IN SARDINIAN TRADITION

Helichrysum
From the Greek Eliochryson, Golden Sun, it is very linked to the “rituals of fire” up-to the feasts of St.John, which have been widespread throughout the island since ancient time.
The essence of Helichrysum symbolizes light, it has the power to brighten and soothe any situation: its warm, earthy scent is an invitation to seek within yourself a bit of calmness and true warmth that restores vitality and restores beauty and energy.
The characteristic that makes this oil precious and exclusive is the yield of the plant: to obtain about 80 milliliters of oil, 100 kg of fresh flowers must be distilled.
Furthermore, the balsamic period of the plant lasts only one month a year. Harvesting takes place like a ritual: it is done at the end of flowering between the end of June and the first days of July when the flowering tops are harvested by hand and immediately distilled to preserve the organoleptic characteristics of the oil.

Lentisk
It has accompanied the life of Sardinians for millennia, it has been a precious food, a natural drug, a tool for healing and purification. Some archaeological discoveries have led to the hypothesis that the practice of obtaining oil from its berries was widespread even among the Nuragic people. In the richness of Sardinian mythological figures, between magical formulas and shamanic rites, the lentisk could accompany the rituals of the brebadore, healers with the gift of prayers, to whom they often relied to regain health.
The oil was placed next to the fire to gain its powers: in this way, it could fight the fire of St. Anthony and several inflammations. This ancient rite celebrates the advent of fire. The elderly say that the resinous fibers of the cortex accelerate wound healing, while the oil soothes muscles and joints pain.

Juniper
Used since ancient times for ritual purposes and in propitiatory ceremonies, juniper has the ability to mark the boundary between the material and the immaterial.
The heat given off by this essence and its dependence on the sun fully expresses the spirit of the Sardinian Island.
Its presence is consistent on the island where its solid and aromatic wood was used to build the typical shelters of shepherds: they used freshly picked berries in packs in cases of muscle and joint pain and skin diseases.
It gives inner strength, fights fear by stimulating determination.
